Small FPV-class drones are agile and inexpensive but limited in range, endurance and radio line of sight. Carrying one on a mothership saves the child drone’s battery for the task itself, lifts it above terrain masking and lets a single crew deploy it into valleys, over water, behind structures or far beyond its ground-launch range. The same mount can also release other payloads in the same size class, such as sensor pods, relay nodes, marker smoke canisters or rescue pouches.

The mount is deliberately simple: one servo, one lock and one standard 3-pin PWM lead. There is no proprietary controller to integrate, so it works with almost any flight controller or receiver that can drive a servo, and with CRSF / ELRS-only aircraft through the FlySpark ELRS-to-PWM output module. At about 90 g it barely affects the carrier’s payload budget, leaving the lift margin for the child drone itself.
Two versions share the same body. The single-lock PWM version straps or zip-ties directly to the mother aircraft for a dedicated mothership airframe. The single-lock SQ version uses a quick-release interface so the same mount can be moved between carrier aircraft in seconds; the aircraft-side quick-release base is sold separately.


The mount sits under the mother aircraft and its 3-pin lead plugs into a spare PWM output on the flight controller or receiver, which also supplies the 5 V servo rail. The pilot assigns a two-position switch, or a servo command from the ground control software, to that output. With the switch in the locked position the servo holds the latch closed around the child drone’s hanger point. Moving the switch opens the latch and the child drone drops clear of the carrier, after which the child pilot flies it on its own control and video link.
Before every mission, bench-test the latch with propellers removed, confirm the PWM endpoints, load the child drone and carry out a pull test on the latch.


Mother aircraft: large multirotors such as enterprise hexacopters and heavy-lift quadcopters with enough lift margin for the 90 g mount plus the child drone and its battery, a spare 5 V PWM servo output or receiver channel, and a flat underside or landing-gear rail for the strap or quick-release base.
Child aircraft: FPV-class drones of 8 inches or smaller, or other payloads in the same size class. Payload fit confirmed by FlySpark for the end user’s approved payload, including the hanger point that engages the latch.
