FlySpark Configurator — Privacy Policy
How the FlySpark Configurator mobile app handles your data.
Effective date: 5 October 2026
FlySpark Configurator ("the app") is published by FlySpark ("we"). The app connects to your drone's flight controller, ESCs, receivers and radios over USB, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi so you can configure and update them. This policy explains what data the app handles and why.
Summary
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email, phone number or contacts.
- The app sends a diagnostic log to us only if you allow it. It is off until you tap Allow, and you can turn it off at any time.
- Your location is used on your phone for maps and the preflight forecast. We never receive it.
- Anonymous usage statistics (Firebase Analytics) are sent only if you allow diagnostics, using the same choice.
- We do not sell data, show ads, or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
1. Diagnostic logs (optional, with your consent)
On first launch the app asks whether it may send its diagnostic log to help us find and fix problems. Nothing is sent unless you choose Allow. If you choose Don't allow, the log stays on your phone only and is never uploaded. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy → Send diagnostic logs.
When allowed, the app sends:
| Data | Details |
|---|---|
| Install ID | A random identifier created by the app on your phone (not your advertising ID, IMEI or any hardware ID). Shown in About → Diagnostics. |
| App version and build | For example 1.0.0 and the build number. |
| Device information | Phone manufacturer and model, Android version and SDK level, screen size and pixel density, and language/region setting. |
| App activity | Screens opened, buttons tapped, and the steps of connecting to and configuring your hardware. |
| Connected-hardware details | Names and types of USB/Bluetooth devices the app connects to, firmware names and versions, ExpressLRS hotspot names and local network addresses, and names of radio models or files you create in the app. |
| Errors and crashes | Warning and error messages and stack traces, including crashes. |
The log never contains your location (coordinates are removed from log lines before upload), passwords, the GitHub token you may enter, your contacts, photos or files.
Where it goes. Logs are stored in a database we operate on Supabase (supabase.com), which processes them on our behalf as a service provider. Data is sent over HTTPS. The app can only add log entries; it cannot read them back.
How long we keep it. Informational log lines are deleted automatically after 30 days; warnings and errors after 180 days.
Why. Only to diagnose and fix problems in the app.
1a. Usage statistics (optional, same consent)
If you allow diagnostics, the app also sends anonymous usage statistics through Google Analytics for Firebase: which screens and tools are used, which firmware types are connected (for example Betaflight or INAV), and whether connecting, saving and flashing succeed. Firebase assigns a random app-instance ID; we do not link it to you, we do not use the advertising ID, and Google signals and ad personalisation are turned off. If you choose Don't allow or later turn diagnostics off, collection stops. Google processes this data as our service provider under the Google privacy policy. Statistics are kept for 14 months.
2. Location
If you use the preflight forecast or choose to centre a map on your position, the app asks for location permission and reads your position on your phone. On Android 12 and older, Android also requires location permission for Bluetooth scanning and for joining an ExpressLRS Wi-Fi hotspot; the app does not read your position for those.
We never receive your location. To show a forecast, elevation or map, the app sends the coordinates of the area you are looking at, without any identifier, directly to the services listed in section 4. The app does not use location in the background.
3. Data that stays on your phone
Flight-controller backups, blackbox logs, missions, settings, and any GitHub access token you add are stored only in the app's storage on your phone (or where you choose to save or share them). They are not sent to us. The app opts out of Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer.
4. Third-party services the app contacts directly
These services receive requests straight from your phone when you use the related feature. Each has its own privacy policy. None receives your install ID or the diagnostic log.
| Service | Used for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) | Preflight weather forecast, ground elevation | Coordinates of the selected location |
| Open-Elevation | Terrain profile in the INAV flight planner | Waypoint coordinates |
| OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org) | Map tiles; place search (Nominatim) | Tile requests for the area in view; the text you search for |
| Esri (esri.com) | Satellite map imagery | Tile requests for the area in view |
| NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center | Kp index and space-weather scales | A standard web request |
| CelesTrak | Satellite orbits for GNSS visibility | A standard web request |
| Betaflight build cloud | Betaflight firmware builds and presets | Board target, firmware version and build options you choose |
| ArduPilot firmware server | ArduPilot firmware | Board and vehicle type you choose |
| GitHub | INAV, EdgeTX and ESC firmware lists and downloads | A standard web request, plus your own GitHub token if you add one |
| ExpressLRS | ExpressLRS firmware | A standard web request |
| Supabase | Diagnostic log storage (only if you allow diagnostics) | The diagnostic log described in section 1 |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | Usage statistics (only if you allow diagnostics) | The statistics described in section 1a |
| Google Play | App updates offered inside the app | A standard update check through Google Play |
Like any web request, these services see your phone's IP address.
5. Permissions
- USB — talk to flight controllers, ESCs and radios over a cable.
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth) — find and connect to Bluetooth flight controllers and adapters.
- Location — preflight forecast and maps; Bluetooth scanning and Wi-Fi hotspot joining on Android 12 and older.
- Nearby Wi-Fi devices / Wi-Fi state— join an ExpressLRS module's Wi-Fi hotspot to update it.
- Notifications and foreground service — show progress and keep a firmware flash or log download running if you switch apps or lock the screen.
- Internet — downloads, maps, forecast and (if allowed) diagnostics.
6. Your choices and deleting your data
- Stop sending: turn off Settings → Privacy → Send diagnostic logs. Anything not yet sent is deleted from your phone.
- Delete my debug data: Settings → Privacy → Delete my debug data turns diagnostics off, deletes unsent logs, forgets your install ID, and opens an email to us containing only that install ID. We delete all logs for that ID within 30 days of your request. You can also email us yourself with the install ID from About → Diagnostics.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your phone.
Because there are no accounts, there is no account to delete.
7. Children
The app is meant for drone hobbyists and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Security
Diagnostic data is sent over HTTPS and stored in a database that the app can write to but not read. Access to stored logs is limited to the FlySpark developers.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
